The adoption of data analytics/Business Intelligence (BI) platforms among business decision-makers depends on three important factors, namely, the functionality/features of the platform, its usability/agility and finally, managers’ willingness to integrate analytics into decision-making flow. Gartner’s latest summit (Sydney, Feb 2019) on trends of data analytics has put lot of focus on the usability/agility aspect of analytics for effective adoption. It highlights several important concepts, namely, “Augmented Analytics”, “Augmented Data Management”, “Conversational Analytics”, “Continuous Intelligence”, “Explainable AI”, and “Persistent Memory Servers” which emphasise improvement of the user experience of analytics/BI platforms from multiple perspectives. For most BI platforms, data preparation tasks, such as, data cleaning, data profiling, data enrichment, data transformation, master data management, metadata preparation etc. are mostly manual and remains as a bottleneck in theentire analysis process. “Augmented Data Management” is targeted to address these issues and automate this flow as much as possible using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques.Going ahead, this type of automated data management will be crucial in the data analytics flow and its adoption.
